How Will it Work?
FoCuS is the organization which will organize, administer and facilitate the vision
process.
Here is how it will work:
- People will participate in a series of "brain-storming" meetings all over
Collier County in which participants will provide their ideas about the future.
- Anyone may attend and bring up any topic. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
- Initial meetings will be followed by meetings to distill those ideas and develop them
into goals.
- After the two series of meetings, FoCuS will assemble the goals and develop a proposed
vision for Collier County.
- A FoCuS Fair will present the proposed Collier Vision to Collier Countians for final
review.
- Upon final approval, all-important implementation planning will begin.
Has a Vision for Collier County ever been done before?
No. Individual communities such as Immokalee, Marco Island and Naples have undertaken
local planning projects which are being incorporated with this vision effort.
Who is paying the costs?
As this is a citizens' "Grass Roots" project, it is dependent on the public
for its funds. It is hoped that its financial support will be very broad and include
everyone within their ability to contribute. Giving programs are available for:
- Individual citizens
- Community groups, organizations,foundations
- Businesses and professionals
- Local governments
When is the Vision planned?
The vision program will take about six months, beginning in October, 1995. The final
vision review and adoption is planned for March, 1996, with implementation beginning in
April, 1996.
How long will the implementation take?
Like most comprehensive planning, visions typically are five to ten-year plans.
What benefits have other communities found from doing
visions?
- Delray Beach, Florida, as a result of its Vision, was named the "Best Run City in
Florida" by Florida Trend magazine.
- Scottsdale, Arizona, identified as a vision objective the building and rebuilding of
neighborhoods. The City's Neighborhood Enhancement Program now oversees influences on
neighborhoods and provides neighborhood education programs.
- Chattanooga, Tennessee, prioritized economic development in its vision and ten years
later can point to additional financial investment of $793 million in the community.
How can I get involved?
Public participation is the key to the vision process being successful. You are urged
to get involved by:
- Sharing your ideas at public meetings late this year and in early 1996. The vision
program can only succeed with broad public participation.
- Volunteering as a facilitator or to provide general assistance at the meetings.
- Making a contribution to the extent of your ability.
