GOAL

Top quality comprehensive health care systems that are accessible, competitive, affordable, that promote prevention and wellness, and are affordable to all citizens throughout their lifespans

OVERVIEW:

Standing squarely in the path of improving healthcare in our community was a distinct lack of reliable information on what is available, affordable, and accessible. The Health Task Force has accomplished this ambitious compilation of key data which will allow for planning and programming of appropriate resources.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

- Completed "Access Project," a qualitative view of 6 healthcare issues -

Insurance: Availability of coverage and paid sick leave
Attitudes: Knowledge, beliefs, values and access history among at-risk adults
Hospital Data: Conditions treated, source of payment, demographics of in-patients
Uncompensated Physician Care: Projection of charity care
Health Education: Frequency, medium, target for programs
Community: Services offered by community health agencies and how they are paid for

RECOMMENDATIONS:

- Disseminate research results to enhance community understanding of issues

- Incorporate data into planning throughout healthcare industry

- Form Collier County Health Task Force - composed of direct care providers, educators, citizens, government representatives and related industries or organizations - to provide assessment, education, planning and advocacy for quality comprehensive health care that supports the goal as stated above
