How We Did It
Along with classroom work and visits from community leaders, the students
went on various field trips connected with their community.
Some of the trips included:
Students asked for and collected about 750 ties. Their ties came from the
county commissioner, the Mayor of Naples, the Interim Superintendent of
Collier County Schools, teachers, moms, dads, neighbors, visitors, business
leaders, Mr. James Gasparino (their principal), and Sheriff Don Hunter
to name a few. They even got a tie from their Internet pals in Brisbane,
Australia.
Students helped make the quilt by cutting the ties apart, washing
them, and hanging them to dry. While Mrs. Camp's friend, Tina Glover, was
in town, students took turns sewing the quilt on a sewing machine.
Students will sell 2,000 raffle tickets at $1.00 each. The money will
go towards a community project for children.
