IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS
-
Raw garbage: Anything you put in your trash is subject to decomposition
or decay. This included animal, fruit or vegetable waste, along with
or in combination with other matter resulting from the handling, storage,
preparation, cooking, or consumption of food, including the containers
in which such items are packaged.
-
Normal household garbage: Anything that you would normally
put into your trash. This will include food waste along with everything
else you now normally put in your garbage containers or bags.
-
Yard debris: Shrubs, palm fronds, tree branches, bushes, leaves,
twigs or cut up tree parts.
-
Construction debris: Any material relating to construction
of buildings such as cement, glass, drywall, insulation, concrete block,
etc.
The following are separate collections. Do not mix!
-
First priority - Raw garbage: As soon as roads are accessible,
raw garbage will be collected. Raw garbage can pose a public health
threat because it can attract flies, and generate bacteria, odor, and may
attract scavenging animals.

Second priority - Normal household garbage: Separate from
yard waste or construction debris. Place in 35 gallon container with
sealed lid or heavy mil plastic bag. DO NOT BLOCK ROAD WITH GARBAGE.
-
Third priority - Yard waste: Place trees, branches, etc.,
in piles that can be easily managed by collection personnel. You
do not need to bundle your yard waste. Keep separate from garbage.
Try to designate one central location where a group of neighbors can deposit
yard waste.
-
Last priority - Construction debris: Residents will be notified
about this collection through local media.
- Centers for Disease Control (CDC): Hurricanes,
your health and safety
