From CFF member Scott Collins:

Convert an APC Battery Backup for your computer into a power supply for your workbench.

Here’s a neat home use power supply to have DC power at your work bench for chargers, cycler and what ever else you need a good DC power supply for.

APC Back Up 280VA Power Supply Diagram
Finsihed Product

I Took an APC 280 Battery Back Up unit for my computer and drilled an entrance in the side of it. Then I opened the unit up and soldered to two leads to the battery. I put a 3-amp in-line fuse on the positive side for safety. I drilled holes in the wall for two dowels and then epoxied the dowels in the holes. I just clip the alligator clips coming form the power supply to the dowels and clip the alligator clips for the charger to the power supply clips. The dowels help prevent the positive and negative from making contact. The unit also has a 102-volt duplex outlet on the back that is surge protected so you don’t lose valuable plug space in the workroom.
