During Phase II, some 8,000,000 cubic yard (Fig. 11) of organic sediment will be removed from the lake bottom, as well as littoral and near shore exotic and noxious plants, by hydraulic dredging to re-establish the sand substrate (Fig. 13) of the lake. The process should essentially eliminate nutrient diffusion and re-suspension loading from the organic sediment. Sediment studies indicate that in terms of chemistry and physical suitable bermed and ditched disposal area, including a wetland has been identified within one mile of the northern lake shore (Fig. 2, Sec. 25). Return water to the lake would be directed through existing drainage ditches from the wetland. The design of the return flow would have to be such as to remove re-suspended and dissolved contaminants, and reduce total suspended solids and turbidity to acceptable levels.
