Two plans will be developed to restore the vitality of the lake following sediment removal. One plan will be developed for re-introduction and establishment of native aquatic plant species in the littoral zone of the lake. It will include an appropriate aquatic plant control program. The plan will be implemented contemporaneously with sediment removal.
A watershed management plan will be developed to address hydrology and water quality issues. Based on the watershed assessment (Phase I) and the results of the South Lee County hydrologic assessment project (Johnson Engineering et al. 1997),a plan will be developed and implemented to re-establish appropriate inflows and outflows from the lake. The watershed management plan will be developed in cooperation with the landowners in the watershed, and will identify an approach for reducing the inflow of nutrients from the watershed to an acceptable level. The plan will identify land management practices that are economically and ecologically practicable for meeting the water quality goals. Both public and private land management activities will be included in the plan.
