Blind, Inc.
- Purpose: A not for profit organization dedicated
to providing independent-living education; computer, Braille and
mobility programs; peer support and fellowship; recreation and
entertainment; and personal enrichment opportunities for individuals in
Collier County who are visually impaired or blind.
- Number of Members: The CCAB currently has 108
members, ranging in age from 2 to 90 years old. There are more than
3,550 visually impaired or blind people in Collier County.
- Meeting Site: Golden Gate Community Center, 4701
Golden Gate Parkway, Naples.
- Meeting Date/Time:The second and fourth Monday of
every month: business meeting, 11am-noon; guest speaker and
refreshments, 1-3pm
- Training Center Site:850 6th Avenue North,
Naples. Training sessions to members and non-members at no charge. Day
and evening classes are scheduled by appontment only by calling 649-1122.
- Available Training Equipment:Five IBM-compatable
word processors (four with Braille caps and two with voice-simulation
capabilities); two supporting cumputer printers; an electric typewriter;
a high-tech magnifier which magnifies 60x; two Braillers; and a Braille
hole punching stylus. The center's word processors feature Microsoft
Windows® software and Zoom Tech capabilities.
- Annual Dues:$6 for regular, $5 for associate and
$25 for business membership. Corporate sponcership programs with various
levels of support are also available. All members recieve a certificate
suitable for framing.
- Other: The CCAB needs funding to provide the
organization with ongoing operating funds for the training center. Cash,
equipment or in-kind service donations, large or small, are needed.
