FAMILIES IN TRANSITION

THE CLOUTIER - CLUTCHEY FAMILY

A GENEALOGICAL HISTORY

The sketch of Zacharie Cloutier is the artist E. Senecal's version

THE CLOUTIER FAMILY COAT OF ARMS
AN EXPLANATION; The house in the center piece with a typical mansard style roof represents the Cloutier farmhouse that was in the family for 289 years and still stands in Chateau Richer.( See Photo below) In the upper right hand corner in the form of a cross are four nails representing the fact that the original Zacharie Cloutier was a master carpenter. ( A second possibility is that the forged nails or 'clous' may be a contraction of "clous" and "metier" the french word 'to make'. Thus "Clousmetier" = Cloutier) The feathered axe below represents the symbol of Zacharie, who being unable to write, signed his name with a facsimile of this symbol.

ZACHARIE CLOUTIER WAS ONE OF THE EARLIEST SETTLERS
HE LANDED IN QUEBEC AT CHATEAU RICHER

VERY FEW SETTLERS WERE IN NEW FRANCE AT THE TIME.

LIFE WAS DIFFICULT

My name is  DAVE CLUTCHEY, This Web page is an attempt to show how one branch of this family whose progenitor was JEAN FRANCOIS CLOUTIER began its roots in a little community in Ontario Canada in about 1859. My Great Grandfather, Jean Francois Cloutier was the SEVENTH GENERATION descendant of Zacharie Cloutier and I am, of course, the TENTH. A SUMMARY of Jean Francois Cloutier's line of ancestors extending to Zacharie can be seen by following the arrow below.

For all researchers 'THE SUMMARY' is a pertinent and valuable section to read for an understanding of the lineage of the first several generations of the Cloutier family to which all Cloutiers , Clutcheys, Clucheys and many Clukeys belong

SUMMARY

As can be seen from the summary I am a direct descendant of Zacharie Cloutier being a member of the 10th generation of that prestigious and well respected family. My background and interest in the Cloutier family will be seen by referring to the following link

At the present time I am retired and living in a pleasant golfing community known as " The Glades Country Club "  in Naples Florida during the six months of winter. Naples is located in South West Florida and is one of the loveliest communities in the entire USA. The Glades has two golf courses, ten swimming pools, and ten tennis courts amongst its other amenities.

If any of the names IN THE TABLE BELOW look interesting to you, CLICKING THE NAME will take you to their story. For the most part the stories are the product of library research, the files of La Clouterie (the journal of the Cloutier family), and numerous historical documents and texts. Most of the information has been compiled in the private edition text "Families in Transition" a Family History written by David Clutchey Jr. ( Second Edition 1996The updated notes on Mortagne au Perche and the New Notes on La Fleche and La Rochelle were the results of visits to all three places by the writer in September 1999.
