The Family ofJoseph Cloutier IIand Mary Koster

Joseph was the first child of Joseph Clutchey and Mary Jane Gerow. He was born in Port Perry and had no formal education. He married Mary Koster in 1885. All of Joseph and Mar's children were borni Brechin before the family moved west. The move west came in 1912. Initially they stayed with Joseph's brother Fred and his family near Gravelbourg.

Above is the Application for a Homestead applied for by Joseph Clutchey in 1912 .  Of interest is the name Clutchey on the application form with respect to the note below

Name Change

Interestingly this family changed its name back to the 'Cloutier ' spelling at the suggestion of a parish priest in Gravelbourg. To this day they have retained the 'Cloutier' spelling.

A New Beginning

In the spring of the year Joseph moved his family to the farm of his brother Jim which he continued to run for a time until a younger brother Lou returned from the East, where he had married, and took over Jim's farm. Joseph then rented a farm but there is some evidence that he left farming and began to sell sewing machines.

A Researcher, A Writer, An Educator, A Friend

Sister Catherine Seemann

There are no words to describe the wonderful lady who is pictured above. Sister Catherine Seemann entered Religious life with the Sisters of Sion shortly after the Family photo was taken in 1944.  A Generation Eleven descendant of Zacharie Cloutier through her mother Marie (Cloutier) Seemann, Catherine's contribution to this genealogy has been immeasurable.  It was she who began the initial investigation into the genealogy of the Clutchey family which led to the connection to the Cloutier family and hence to our progenitor, Zacharie Cloutier.  It was she who did much of the original research.  It was she who interested this writer (and Webmaster) into seeking his own roots and his own link to Zacharie Cloutier and it was she who encouraged the writing of the text Families in Transition from which most of the information on these pages is taken

Academically, Catherine has a Bachelor of Arts degree ( BA)  and a Masters degree in Library Science (MLS).  Her teaching was at the Primary level where she also served as an administrator in Kansas City Missouri.

After returning to Canada Catherine worked in the field of Judeo-Christian Relations.

Currently she lives in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada ministering to the needs of the Elder Sisters of Sion.

We respectfully acknowledge her contributions,  her support and cherish her friendship.
