INTERNAL EVIDENCE FOR REVELATION REFERRING TO THE DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM

Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants-things which must shortly take place. The Greek word for shortly used here is ""tachos" meaning in haste, quickly, shortly. Rev 1:3 for the time is near. Rev 3:11 "Behold, I am coming quickly!" Rev 22:7 "Behold, I am coming quickly!" Rev 22:10 "Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.

Rev 22:12 "And behold, I am coming quickly," All of this indicates that The apocalypse will take place very shortly after it was written, probably months, not centuries, not years.. The Jewish persecution ended in AD70 [3-6 years between the proposed date of this epistle and its conclusion] whereas the Roman persecution ended in AD313 [213 years between the alternant proposed date of this epistle AD90 and its conclusion]. It is obvious that the earlier date is preferred.

Rev 1:7 "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him". If they who pierced him will see him in the apocalypse, then it must have taken place within the same generation that Jesus was talking to in Matt 24. Recall when Caiaphas was questioning Jesus about the destruction of the temple and he answered in Matt 26:54, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."

The letters are addressed to the only seven churches of Asia that existed just prior to the destruction of Jerusalem. Hierapolis and Colosse were destroyed by an earthquake and these congregations merged with Laodicea. After the destruction of Jerusalem and cessation of Jewish persecution, Asian churches were numerous.

The temple was still in existence Rev 11:1.

The place of combat is identified as Jerusalem. Rev 11:8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

Rev 17: 7-10 But the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.

"The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. "Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. "There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time.

Julius, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudia are the five that have fallen. Nero Caesar is the sixth Caesar. With Nero, the Christian persecution began with the burning of Rome in AD64 and he died in AD68. The apocalypse must have been written between these two dates.

Consider Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666." The Hebrew Alphabet is somewhat unique in that certain letters are also assigned to specific numbers and there are no separate numeric characters. The Hebrew spelling for Nero Caesar is "NRON KSR" representing numerically 50-500-6-50-100-60-200, the sum of which is 666.

All of the above certainly indicate that the topic of the Revelation letter is the destruction of Jerusalem and how closely some of the events are related to Matt 24, Luke 17 and Luke 21.

Consider Luke 21: 24 "And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Rev 11:2"But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months

Rev 12:6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

Nero gave the order for the siege of Jerusalem February AD67 [ref. Jewish Testimonies, Vol.8 by Lardner]. Jerusalem was destroyed in August AD70 [ref "Wars of the Jews" Vol.7 Josephus], a period of exactly forty two months. Could this be a coincidence? I don’t think so.

Consider Revelation 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."

Note that this is a "New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven" to earth since the old Jerusalem had passed away.. If there is a reference

Matt 24:15-21 "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand),

16 "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

17 "Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.

18 "And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.

19 "But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!

20 "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.

21 "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Dan 9:27 certainly refers to this tribulation which is taking place at the end of the seventy weeks of years periods.

Dan 9:27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate.

Dan 12:7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

Rev 12:14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.

Could this be the final half-week in Daniels seventy weeks of years. I think so.

Dan 12:25-27 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

"And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. Note that this last week is fragmented into two half weeks with the first half ending at the time of Acts chapter 2. The last half week of years, 42 months begins with the order to destroy Jerusalem by Nero in February AD67 and ended August AD70.

Concerning the current teaching in many religious circles on a so-called "rapture" which seems to have roots in

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Note that these are souls (not bodies) of those who had been beheaded for Christ, the same souls that were under the alter in chapter six now receiving the resurrection promised in Chapter six. The thousand mentioned here is 10 cubed giving emphasis to completeness. Recall the use of symbolic numbers in the Old Testament:

1=unity

2=conformation

3=Deity

4=earth

5=completeness

7=Perfection

10=completeness confirmed

1000=(completeness confirmed)cubed

144000=12*12*10*10*10 Absolutely and totally all organized religion.

Note that the rapture theory also includes a "tribulation period".

In Rev 1:9 John writes " 9 I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that

is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. " So John was in the tribulation at the time he was writing.

In Matt 24:21 Mathew writes "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.

This is the tribulation that was to occur within the lifetime of the audience.
