Tim said that he is grateful and humbled by the support and generosity of the members in our parish organizations.   Fr. Tim also was happy to receive the “Knight of the Year” award, but he also felt that there are so many other members in the organization that do so much more.  However, he said he is very happy to receive the honor.

Additional ixoria will be planted on the corners of the East and West side of the Church to continue the line of shrubs already there.  Waiting for bid from contractor for pavers in the alcove on each side of the main entrance to the Church – terra cotta to match the color of the Church roof.  Fr. Tim indicated that he wants a permanent area with no maintenance.  Three large urns filled with seasonal flowers will be added to this area.  The palms on each side of the entrance will also be removed.

There will be summer projects and future projects to be finalized.  The cost of replacing the trees will be submitted as a “special budget” request to the Finance Committee.

(Hall):  Both dressing rooms have been tiled; Bid of $2,300 to refinish front porch of the parish center and take care of the cracks.

(Church):  In the process of getting three bids from contractors for wrought iron railings to replace current brass railings and two additional railings off the center in the middle of the altar.

There was a discussion as to whether we should have wrought iron railings or stay with the brass railings.  Fr. Tim said that most of the work will be done during the summer by our own men.  Asfar as storage space is concerned,  this will be tabled for now and brought up again at a future date.

Youth Ministry:    On May 7, 2010 a meeting to discuss the possibilities of having a permanent full time Youth Minister at San Marco Catholic Church was discussed.  Present at the meeting were:  Fr. Tim, Mike Minozzi, Bill Roche, Nancy Fine, George Smith, Diocesan Youth Minister, Joe Grande and Kim Adamson.

Everyone present was in agreement that we need to do something for our youth and that a full time youth minister was the answer.  This person would have to recruit and direct the children with a clear vision.  Mike Minozzi suggested  an amount of $70,000 – breaking it down to $50,000 salary and $20,000 for expenses.   Resumes were looked over by Nancy Fine and Fr. Tim.  George Smith requested to be involved in the interviews for this position.  However, the person that we hire must fit our parish needs.   Fr. Tim will be responsible in hiring the Youth Minister

The committee will continue to work on this.  Joe Granda mentioned that we need Fr. Tim’s approval before we begin interviewing.   Mike Minozzi said that we must be serious about hiring a youth minister. This individual will be setting up programs and getting in touch with the families otherwise we are going to lose the children.

Presentations and/or Parishioner Comments:     None

Old Business:

Addition of Holy Family to constitution – second reading as follows:

The Council welcomes representatives from our Mission Church, Holy Family in Everglades City and provides a forum for their issues and needs to be discussed.  Representatives participate in all discussions, but are not voting members”.

A motion was made to approve this addition by Joe Granda and second by Jerry Katchmar.   Motion passed unanimously.  This will be added to the Constitution and everyone will be sent a copy.

Other Old Business:    Mike Minozzi will temporarily table the storage building project.  Discussion on this will be brought up in the September meeting.

New Business:    A discussion continued regarding the Youth Minister’s salary, office space and meeting space. While it would be a plus if we an hire this person before the new school year starts,it is more important to take whatever time is needed to find the right person for the position.

Mike Minozzi mentioned that years ago under the leadership of Bill Roche we had the Squires and Maidens of Mary.  Some of them became leaders on a state level.

Members Comments/Future Agenda Items:

Nancy Fine mentioned that requested the following:

…..toilet seat covers in the restrooms

…..handicapped signs in certain areas of the parking lot.

…..It would be helpful if we had a Church Directory with photos of the parishioners.
